About Debbie Frith
A journey built on real business experience
I have over three decades of hands-on business experience. My journey hasn’t been linear – it’s been diverse, challenging, and ultimately rewarding in ways I never expected.
From corporate leadership to family business
My business career began in the demanding world of UK hospitality management, where I spent 12 years at a senior level managing multi-site operations in the casual dining sector. The fast-paced environment taught me the importance of systems, people management, and maintaining standards under pressure – skills that serve every business I work with today.
Following this, I spent 12 years co-running our family manufacturing and engineering firm alongside my husband and his family. This experience gave me intimate knowledge of the unique challenges family businesses face – from managing relationships to making difficult decisions that affect both business and personal life.
The entrepreneurial chapter
In 2016, I took a leap into entrepreneurship, becoming a franchisee with a business support franchise. For eight and a half years, I built a successful business, working with diverse clients across sectors including coaching, property planning, recruitment, charity, and angel investing.
This period taught me the realities of solo business ownership – the isolation, the constant decision-making, the juggling of multiple responsibilities. More importantly, it showed me the incredible value of having someone in your corner who truly understands your challenges.
An unexpected opportunity
In August 2024, I faced an unexpected turning point when the franchise announced closure. Rather than seeing this as a setback, I recognised it as the catalyst I needed to create something uniquely mine. The experience had given me confidence and practical knowledge, and I was ready to build something that truly reflected my capabilities and vision.
Discovering my passion for mentoring
During my final months with the franchise, I had the opportunity to mentor my fellow franchisees. This experience highlighted that my greatest satisfaction comes from helping other business owners succeed through guidance, challenge, and support.
The mentoring role allowed me to combine all my diverse business experience with my natural inclination to support and challenge others. I realised that this was where I could make the most significant impact – helping business owners think strategically, make better decisions, and avoid the pitfalls I’d encountered throughout my own journey.
Building Boost and Beyond
This realisation led to the creation of Boost and Beyond Business Solutions, with business mentoring at its heart. While I continue to provide hands-on business support to a handful of longstanding clients, my primary focus is on mentoring business owners who are ready to take their companies to the next level.
My mentoring approach draws from every stage of my career – the operational excellence from hospitality, the strategic thinking from family business leadership, and the practical reality of solo entrepreneurship. This diverse background means I can relate to challenges across different business types and sizes.
A partnership approach to mentoring
What sets my mentoring apart is my belief in genuine partnership and honest communication. Having been where my clients are – facing tough decisions, managing growth, dealing with setbacks – I understand that business ownership can be isolating and overwhelming.
I don’t believe in soft mentoring that simply validates what you’re already thinking. My role is to challenge your assumptions, ask the difficult questions, and help you see opportunities and risks you might be missing. Sometimes the most valuable thing I can offer is a different perspective and the courage to push you outside your comfort zone.
Real-world experience, current insight
I continue to run my own business and work with clients because it keeps me grounded in today’s business realities. My advice isn’t theoretical – it’s based on current experience of what works and what doesn’t in the modern business environment.
Whether you’re dealing with cash flow challenges, struggling with strategic decisions, feeling overwhelmed by growth, or simply wanting to ensure your business reaches its full potential, I’ve likely faced similar situations. This shared experience creates the foundation for meaningful mentoring relationships.
The mentoring philosophy
My mentoring philosophy is built on three key principles: honesty, accountability, and action. I’ll give you straight feedback, even when it’s not what you want to hear. I’ll hold you accountable for the commitments you make to yourself and your business. And I’ll ensure our sessions always result in clear, actionable steps forward.
Business mentoring isn’t about dependency – it’s about building your confidence and capability to make better decisions independently. My goal is to help you develop the skills and mindset to tackle future challenges with greater certainty and success.
Beyond ongoing mentoring
My primary focus is on building long-term mentoring relationships, which start with a 3-hour strategy session, which can also be booked as stand-alone strategy sessions for business owners who need focused, strategic input at specific moments. These intensive 3-hour sessions are perfect when you’re at a crossroads, considering major changes, or simply need an experienced perspective on a particular challenge. Sometimes, a single focused session provides exactly the clarity and direction needed to move forward confidently.
Personal life
I live in Dorset in the South of England, with my husband, teenage daughter, and our two dogs. My life started out in the Northwest of England where I was born. When I was sixteen my family and I relocated to the Isles of Scilly – a huge life changing move for us all. I went to what is now Bournemouth Uni to study an HND and then onto Southampton for my first management job in the restaurant industry. Soon after I met my husband to be and after spending time in Essex and Hampshire we settled permanently in Dorset over twenty years ago. We love travelling together and spending time entertaining family and friends. Dorset gives us a prefect balance of coast and countryside and we spend plenty of time in both exploring, finding new places to experience. Food is a passion of mine, I love cooking it and eating it!
The bottom line
My journey has taught me that successful business ownership isn’t about having all the answers – it’s about knowing when to seek support, being open to challenge, and building relationships that help you grow. Business mentoring provides exactly that support, helping you make better decisions and avoid costly mistakes.
Whether you’re facing a specific challenge or simply want to ensure your business reaches its full potential, I’m here to work alongside you. Because ultimately, running a business shouldn’t mean doing it alone.
